   Saint Simeon's Auxiliary News

What a wonderful holiday season at Saint Simeon’s. The Auxiliary’s Resident Christmas Parties, chaired by Sandra Pease, Mary Lou Driskill, and Glenna Robinson, were very festive. The event included a fun jazz number by four dancing snowflakes dancing to “Let it Snow”. The “snowflakes” were Jennifer, Jessica and Emily Harrington and Madelyn Driskill. Glenna Smith and Mary Lou Driskill prepared a special reading of “Twas the Night Before Christmas”. Several residents starred as the readers of this classic story. The acappella singing group Counterpoint entertained the crowd of over 200 with several Christmas songs. And last, but not least, Santa Claus made a special appearance and gave each resident a box of chocolates. Several residents even sat on Santa’s lap!

The Resident Tree Trimming Parties were also a big hit. Tree Trimming Parties were hosted by Ruth and Eugene Anderson, Jaunita Davis and Charlene Fabian, Jim and Linda Furman, Hilda Knox, Marilyn Riggs and Pam Paschall. Many other friends joined in to make each party special for the residents and Adult Day Services participants. Thank You!!

The next meeting of the Auxiliary is scheduled for Wednesday, January 9th at 10:00 a.m. Please plan to join us. The featured staff speaker will be Stuart Graham, Dietary Director. Stuart will discuss the dietary program and recent changes and planned changes for food service.

ADULT DAY SERVICES

News from “Way Down South”

Adult Day Services held a Christmas Party for participants and their families. Everyone sang Christmas Carols, enjoyed cookies, chocolates and punch, and received a present from Santa Claus. Thank you to the Auxiliary for their support!

We are all looking forward to the New Year’s Celebration Party and a Super Bowl Party in January.

ATTENTION!!!!!

The Adult Day Services Family Support Group was recently organized to give family members of participants an opportunity to meet others who share their experience as caregivers for loved ones with memory disorders. Whether memory loss is due to a stroke, Alzheimer's Disease or other brain injury or disease, the role of the caregiver is challenging, frustrating, and at times very lonely. "It is comforting to meet other people in the same boat, and to learn that some of the behaviors their loved one exhibits are not that unusual," states Chris Smith, Saint Simeon's Life Enrichment Director and group facilitator. "Other caregivers understand their feelings, often better than their friends and family are able to do. A group can help make the world a much less lonely place. It also offers a great venue for sharing care giving tips and even finding humor in their situations."

The Adult Day Services Support Group meets every two weeks at St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church, and is open to the public on a space available basis. The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, January 8th at 12:30 p.m. For more information, call Chris Smith at 425-3583 x204
