Two
ad hoc committees, appointed by Auxiliary President Gayle Eby, met this past
month. One committee is reviewing the success of each of the special events
sponsored by the Auxiliary throughout the year. The second committee is
developing ideas to generate increased membership in the Auxiliary. Currently,
the Auxiliary has over 175 women and men members but greater participation is
desired. The preliminary thoughts of each committee will be discussed at the
February Auxiliary meeting.
The
February Auxiliary meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, February 13th (Ash
Wednesday). The meeting will be held in the Multi-Media Room at 10:00 a.m.
Special guest staff presenters will be Kell Grier, Environmental Services
Director and Frances Goddard, Business Manager. We encourage you to come learn
about the functions of each of their departments.
A big
thank you to Mary Pratt and the group of volunteer singers from St. Luke’s
Episcopal Church. They entertained residents, families and friends on Sunday,
January 6th. Previous churches who have volunteered to bring cookies and/or
entertainment to the Ice Cream Parlor include Dorothy Kendall with members from
St. Dunstan’s and Susan Foust with members from St. Peter’s. Judy Randall
and Trinity will make a visit in February.

ADULT DAY
SERVICES
News from “Way
Down South”
If you have called or visited
Saint Simeon’s at 3701 North Cincinnati, you more than likely were
warmly and enthusiastically welcomed by staff member Lee Davis. Well, now
Lee has taken her wonderful people skills to Adult Day Services (ADS). Pam
Paschall, ADS Supervisor, is excited to have Lee providing loving care to
the ADS participants.
Participants are enjoying reading
together. Currently, they are getting caught up in the adventures of Treasure
Island.
The ADS Valentine’s Party is
scheduled for Valentine’s Day, Thursday, February 14th at 1:00 p.m. ADS
families are invited to share the fun and if you would like to volunteer
to help with the party please call Pam Paschall at 496-3316.
The Adult Day Services Family
Support Group met for the first time on December 8th. Chris Smith, Group
facilitator and Saint Simeon’s Life Enrichment Director, states, “the
family group has started very well and is very active.” The group is
available to give family members of participants an opportunity to meet
others who share their experience as caregivers for loved ones with memory
disorders.
Whether memory loss is due to a
stroke, Alzheimer's Disease or other brain injury or disease, the role of
the caregiver is challenging, frustrating, and at times very lonely.
"It is comforting to meet other people in the same boat, and to learn
that some of the behaviors their loved one exhibits are not that
unusual," states Chris Smith, Saint Simeon's Life Enrichment Director
and group facilitator. "Other caregivers understand their feelings,
often better than their friends and family are able to do. A group can
help make the world a much less lonely place. It also offers a great venue
for sharing care giving tips and even finding humor in their
situations."
The Adult Day Services Support
Group meets every two weeks at St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church, and is open
to the public on a space available basis. The meetings in February will be
Tuesday, February 5th and Tuesday, February 19th at 12:30 p.m. For more
information, call Chris Smith at 425-3583 x204.
