REZZY DENT SAYS..

Early this month, Saint Simeon's will celebrate what seems to have become an annual "Stars Among Us" Party.

Exactly how the "Stars" are chosen is not too clear. Each of us who lives here has, after all, lived a rather long and full life. So you can bet that everyone has - - at one time or another, in one way or another, - - been a star in some galaxy... It just takes the right telescope and viewer to spot a new one!

The date this year is May 9th. Come join us as we name the newly identified Saint Simeon's stars.

Feeling stressed because there's so much you'd like to do and so little energy or working time to do it?

A local health club posted on its bulletin board a list of "stress reducers". Whether following them will ameliorate anxiety disorder or clear a path to serenity Rezzy isn't prepared to say. Not qualified, officially, either.

But here are the 4 - modified and in shortened and less hortatory - (isn't that a great word. - look it up. Rezzy did once.) - - form:

     STRESS REDUCERS

1.   Acknowledge your limitations. Can what you want to do be done differently so it takes less time or energy? Is there someone else to whom you can delegate it?

Is it something some one else should be doing because it's not your responsibility?

2.   Practice preventive maintenance as you care

for essential aids, appliances, equipment or

      relationships!

3.   If something doesn't work, fix it or get rid of

      it.

4.   When keeping appointments, riding the bus

or planning to be picked up for an outing,

      expect to WAIT.

Prepare to wait by taking a book or hand-

work or (heaven forbid!) your cell phone so you

are not at the mercy of the clock or the magazine in the doctor's office or conversations you'd rather not have.

   ___  ___  ___  ___  ___  ___  ___  ___  ___

All very well for all those British poets to have celebrated the "Merry Month of May" - but May is also Arthritis Month. If you have it, you are part of a big group - - 1 of us out of every 6 has it.

Sometimes it's more comfortable to be part of a majority!

Did you see the Ellen Goodman column in "The World" about ten days ago? She wrote of the difference in American and French attitudes toward food. She quotes the old French adage "Tell me what you eat and I will tell you what you are." Goodman quotes a professor at France's "School of Advanced Studies in Social Sciences" who considered the incursion of American Fast Foods into the French market as follows: "You don't know what you're eating. And if you don't know what you're eating, do you know what you are?"
