"Believe It or Not"

REZZY DENT SAYS..

This month the date of the 11th looms larger than Labor Day or any single family celebration.

On the 11th, Saint Simeon's will remember that same day last year. It brought us, as a nation, a sense of vulnerability that we - as a whole nation - had never known before.

As a state, Oklahoma faced that vulnerability earlier when the Oklahoma City bombing occurred.

Now both the state and the nation and, in another sense, the whole world face a future less smugly certain than much of our recent past.

May we face it with courage and a reasonable humility in knowing our limitations as human beings.

One of our local radio stations advertises "You know 2,000 songs by the time you're grown."

How far back do you remember? -- List the titles for your own list!"

Here are some of Rezzy's -- (who is either a pretty old resident or else has a great memory for trivia!)

World War I:

  • "Ma! He's Makin' Eyes at Me"
  • "Just a Baby's Prayer at Twilight"
  • "Roses Are Blooming in Picardy"
  • "K-K-K-Katy"
  • "How You Goin' To Keep 'Em Down On the Farm"
  • "Over There"
  • "Give My Regards To Broadway"

And then the 1920's

  • "The Charleston"

  • "O! Katerina!

  • "Yankee Doodle Dandy"

  • "Tea for Two"

  • "Just a Coggage Small By a Waterfall"

And the "30's - - Oh the thirties!!!

  • "Chattanooga Choo-Choo
  • "There's A Small Hotel"
  • "I hear Music When I look at You"
  • "All The Things You Are"
  • "String of Pearls"

From the '40's on, life sort of took over and it's harder to dredge up life-shaping titles.

Oh - - well.

Send Rezzy your list.
