St. Simeon's "Believe It or Not"

She is one of our Dietary Technicians. Her responsibilities are varied, including nutritional assessments of the residents, daily menu planning, as well as planning the menu for special events and of course the actual food preparation, charting information on the residents, and participating in care plans. Her office is in the Alzheimer's Center, right by the Wander Alarm. She says she loves it there (being in the Alzheimer's Center, not having her door right by the alarm). Certainly it is a very active area and, "There is always something going on! The atmosphere is joyful and relaxed and you are guaranteed to have lots of contact with residents."

In addition to her official responsibilities, Glenna is also a member of the Infection Control committee and the Quality Indicator CQI Committee (this group meets year around to respond as needed to changes in residents' condition). She is an active member of the St. Simeon's Auxiliary, our volunteer organization, and served as their president in 1995.

Glenna came to work here in May of 1993. She had a friend who worked here (always an excellent way to get new employees - tell your friends about us!) Also she knew about St. Simeon's from some of her volunteer work (had helped at the Ice Cream social, etc.). So, when she saw the ad in the paper she decided to come by and apply. After the interview she was convinced that she wouldn't be offered the job because she had no experience with therapeutic menus, such an important part of our residents' care. But she also felt that since she had survived that interview (one of our "group" interviews for those who have been through it), she could survive anything! Sure enough, they saw something in her that said she was right for St. Simeon's and she was hired. The first year and a half she went to school to become a Certified Dietary Manager. She is also a Food Service Sanitation Professional.

Glenna's training had been in accounting work. She had been a text book buyer - one of her favorite jobs since it involved traveling a lot and spending time in a college setting. Also she helped in the preparation of taxes. Just before coming to St. Simeon's she worked for Reasor's Food Stores as their Bakery and Deli Supervisor at all nine of their locations. Again, she liked the traveling from store to store but also she is glad that one of the skills she picked up there that has served her well is decorating cakes.

When Glenna was growing up, her grandparents lived with them. Her parents both had careers and her grandparents were her main caregivers. Her grandfather was a chef and taught her how to cook. She says her grandmother taught her everything else.

"We lived in a big old house with six bedrooms." She says the house reminded her of the TV show "The Waltons". Years later when her three children were small, Glenna cared for her grandparents until they both died. She loved taking care of them and knew that coming to Saint Simeon's was something she would be able to do.

Glenna has three children. A daughter, Carrie, an OU graduate who lives in Norman; a son, Tony,
