This organization provides field trips,
spelling bees, science fairs, book fairs, proms, and other activities for home
schooled children so they get to do those things too. The family attends
Lutheran Church of Our Savior.
Honey is "home schooling" herself too. Through
the Excelsior College Network she is getting her RN degree - called an external
degree since it is done by correspondence in your own home. They send her the
study guides; she studies until she's ready to take the tests; then she goes to
one of the Sylvan Technology Centers to actually take them. After she passes
all her tests she will have the credit hours for her degree. Then she goes to a
hospital affiliated with this network to do her clinicals. The nearest hospital
for her will be in Dallas.
Family is also very important to Joe. He is a
"stay-at-home" dad and helps with all their schooling. He goes on field trips
with them or when they have track and field days he is right there helping. "He
is a wonderful man and the greatest thing that ever happened to me. I consider
myself very lucky and the renewing of our wedding vows was my gift to him." She
and Joe renewed their vows here at St. Simeon's in the Common Room with Father
Norris officiating on November 3rd. They have been married ten
years. Son Joey was Best Man (he's eight years old) and daughter Tina was the
Maid of Honor (she's five years old).
Honey enjoys making homemade bread and cookies
(and so do her kids) and she got second place with her cinnamon rolls at the
County Fair. She enjoys cross-stitching and embroidering and is currently
making a quilt.
Her future plans? Of course, she plans to
become an RN and then she would like to go on and get her masters degree --
perhaps become a midwife or even a Director of Nursing. Whatever she does,
Honey will bring her own unique talents to the job and help make the world a
better place just as she has for all of us at St. Simeon's.
