Getting to Know: Seth Moseley
Seth Moseley was recently recognized as one of our outstanding employees. He works in the Housekeeping Department and describes what he does as, “Basically I help keep the residents' rooms clean.” We all know he does a lot more than that because we see him in the hall and in the public areas keeping them just as clean. Seth is very flexible and works in several areas. He also does an outstanding job on the many windows that St. Simeon's has. Seth came here in September of 1998. He tried lots of jobs before finding the one he likes best - working here! He was a courtesy clerk at Reasor's grocery store, sacking groceries and carrying them out to customers' cars. He also had the same job at Albertson's. He worked at Tulsa Driller's stadium doing ground maintenance, cleaning up the stadium, picking up trash off the parking lot, and even polished the pay phones. Another job he had was working at Jim Glover Dodge. There he was a janitor technician and helped keep the back of their shop clean. He also worked at the Tulsa State Fair. Now that required major cleaning up. Seth says, “You wouldn't believe how much stuff people throw down, cotton candy, pop corn sacks, hot dog wrappers, etc.” Some of you have been to the fair and know he's right about that! Seth came here because of a program at Goodwill. “Goodwill helps find jobs for people who are looking for the best job for them.” They sent a job coach with him for a few days to see how he was doing and make sure that he was doing the job right. The coach didn't need to stay long because Seth caught on real fast. “ When I first came here I knew that I had the skills from different jobs that I had before and that I could make this place as clean and wonderful as it could be. What I like best about my job is that I have lots of friends here and great people to work with. Also, there are really nice residents here. It is important to always have a good sense of humor.” We all know about Seth's sense of humor! Seth was born in Tulsa and has one older brother. When Dustin and Becky (Seth's brother and sister-in-law) got married, Seth was one of the groomsman. Becky works at St. John's and Dustin does home entertainment installments of audio devices. “My mom also works at St. John's and has for 20 years. She is a secretary for an executive there. His dad works in security at Tulsa International Airport. “You wouldn't believe the things he has confiscated - scissors and pocket knives are the most common items.”
In his spare time Seth enjoys tennis, basketball, bowling and leather crafting. He bowls at River Lanes with the Oklahoma Air National Guard League. He plays basketball with 'Team Tulsa', a Special Olympics organization, at Jenks School and recently went to Norman to compete in the winter Special Olympics Basketball Tournament. They were beating Stillwater 20 to 14 but then Seth twisted his ankle and they ended up losing the game without their 6'3'' defense. Clearly Seth is an important part of the team! Next year they'll beat them for sure. Growing up, Seth was part of Boy Scout Troop #23 sponsored by the Garnett Church of Christ. He enjoyed going on trips to John Zink Ranch and hiking up Twin Mountain Peaks in Colorado. In scouts he also learned to build and race soapbox model cars and how to make a campfire and roast marshmallows and even cook blackberry cobbler over a fire. “It made for some pretty good eating unless it was 20 below and then sometimes the food would freeze and we would have to thaw it over the campfire.” He attended two grade schools, Disney and Columbus, Foster Middle School, East Central High School for his freshman and sophomore years before transferring to Union for his junior and senior years. He graduated from Union High School in 1996. He currently attends 'Living Skills' classes at Tulsa Community College consisting of Oklahoma History, Reading, Science and Money Management. He attends Southwood Baptist Church, which is right behind where he lives. Seth has three cats - all spoiled rotten. “Whenever I get home they want to be picked up and loved and petted.” He also has a dog named Skipper. He collects baseball cards and hot wheels. Seth is a very special young man. His supervisor, Billie Minton, says, “In Housekeeping, we just kind of all took him in. He is just a big ole kind-hearted kid. He is also a good worker and clearly was raised with good training at home.” This is what was said about Seth when he was nominated as a STAR employee: “He cares more about the privilege of having a job here and doing that job well than perhaps anyone else in this building. He has made the extra effort required to learn all the answers to the questions he might be asked in any state or JCAHO inspection - just listen to him respond in any employee meeting. He is always willing to go the extra mile, for example cleaning the Smoke Hole when it wasn't his responsibility. He just did it because he wanted all of St. Simeon's to be the best it could be.” Because Seth Moseley works here, St. Simeon's is a better place and we are all better people for knowing him. That's an awful lot that he can be proud of. |
