The Tree of Dreams program is off to a great start. Residents Frances Templeton
and Madelyne Kyser were treated to an UNbirthday party on June 19th. Frances
and Madelyne had noted that their wish was to remove a few years off of their
age and to be able to move back to their respective cottages. Tree of Dreams
Committee members Paula Owens, Karen Garren, Judy Lawson, Ruth Anderson and
Gayle Eby hosted a wonderful party and presented each with an “age reduction”
certificate and a lighted ceramic cottage. Party-goers enjoyed two delicious
cakes baked and decorated by dietary staff member (and Auxiliary member) Glenna
Robinson.
Other fun dreams have already submitted by, or on behalf of, several residents
and plans are being made to fulfill each one.
Crates and crates of wonderful new books, donated by Nan and Marwin Kemp, are
being placed on the shelves in the residents' library. A big thank you to Judy
Lawson and Karen Garren for their continuing efforts to make the library more
user-friendly.
It's not too late to sign up to serve on an Auxiliary committee this coming
year. Please call Karen Garren, Auxiliary President at 747-1725 if you would
like to serve. You can choose to help with one or more of the following
committees: Fall Cookout, Residents' Tree Trimming Parties, Residents'
Christmas Party, and Educational Programs. Also, if you would like to join
Karen, Judy Lawson, Paula Owens and Betty Rheingans as Ice Cream Parlor
volunteers, please contact Stephen Mason at 425-3583, ext. 237 for details.
4th of July Trivia Question:
In 1778, how did General George Washington celebrate the Fourth of July for the
first time?
Answer: He issued double portions of rum to the troops, ordered them to
put “green boughs” in their hats, and fired off a few rounds from cannons
seized from the British.
