Adult Day Services
--News From Way Down South

We had a lot of fun in October. Participants of Adult Day Services enjoyed a field trip to the Carmichael's Pumpkin Patch in Bixby. We also gathered pine cones and leaves so we can make fall wreaths to decorate our home. The Tulsa Fire Department visited and discussed fire safety tips with us.

The holidays are fast-approaching and we are making plans to make sure we are all in the spirit of the season. Volunteers Marilyn Riggs and Irene Armstrong are the co-chairs for the Christmas tree-trimming party this year. We will decorate our tree, sing Christmas carols and listen to Christmas music, and enjoy the good fellowship and food with each other on Friday, November 28 at 10:30 a.m. All families of ADS participants are invited to join with us.

Do you know a family that may benefit from Adult Day Services? Please let them know they can contact Pam Paschall, Adult Day Services Supervisor, to arrange a visit and tour. Pam can be reached at 496-3316.

Residents' Library Notes

If you haven't seen the library recently you should take a look. It is a far cry from the dark, dingy, musty room it was a year ago. It is now a bright site as you approach it from the corridor. There are hundreds of new, colorful volumes carefully arranged in categories that are well identified by large indicators and are color coded as to the type of book. There are five color index guides that indicate the nature of each section of books.
These changes were accomplished by hours of dedicated labor on the behalf of the Auxiliary's Library Committee, under the guidance of Judy Lawson, a professional librarian with the assistance of Karen Garren, Lou Anne Harris, Ginny Davis and other volunteers.

During the past three weeks at least 50 new volumes have been added. Special attention has been given to books in LARGE PRINT as so many of us have some visual difficulties. There are now a total of 80 such books and a pleasant variety of titles are present including, biographies, current novels, westerns, mysteries, etc. A generous couple, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Eby have donated a year's subscription for the "Editors Choice of the Month: In Large Print” that will be displayed in an adjacent section.

We are hopeful of continued and increased usage of this beautiful facility and assure you that assistance will be available from the committee members.

Reece Boone, M.D.
Library Committee member
